George Eliot: New Criticism for the 21st Century
A collection of critical essays
Those organizing the collection are interested in a broad range of new interdisciplinary topics, new theoretical approaches, and innovative insights. A few possibilities might be as follows: Eliot and the periodical press, Eliot as researcher, Eliot on the continent, her engagement with mythology, natural history, philosophy, historical fiction, music, poetry, religion, biography, finance, the law, narrative, or psychology. Other approaches include: materiality, surface reading, publishing, and gender studies.
The purpose of this list of topics is to suggest but not restrict. Feel free to combine the topics or introduce your own approach to Eliot’s writing not mentioned here. Questions are welcome.
